Play Review by Emily Winslow (a student/participant in the play production elective)
For many, acting in plays is a dream. For others, it is considered “uncool”. And still more think that it is silly and don’t even bother to go to view the final product. Well those of you who don’t sign up for it or just don’t go, you are missing out, big time. All students who participated in this show, including myself, were quite happy with the show and they were able to pull it off in only, two terms!
Many viewers were surprised that middle schoolers were able to pull of such a play. This year the play was delightful and funny. It was about an hour and forty-five minutes in length. It was about presentations students were putting on which went horribly wrong. Many laughs were evoked out of the audience.
The experience of writing, blocking, and staging a play all on you lonesome is fun for many. In the process students become friends with people they would have never become friends with otherwise. Play Production encourages students to get out of their comfort zones, become friends with all and, act creatively on stage. I can honestly tell you, I am closer friends with everyone in the cast this year than I was at the start of this year. Play Production has been a blast to be in.
I can say though it can be a little stressful at times when it is not going right, or it doesn’t seem like it will ever be a show, but I think it is totally worth it. In the end everyone was pleased with the results.
To all of you that get a chance to be in Play Production or a production similar to this, give it a try. It is a way to get closer to people in different grades, and work as a teem. It is life changing and, who doesn’t like to act a little?
Plus, this is not only an elective for actors; writers can be enrolled in it too. This production needs quite a bit of writing involved as well. To those of you who do not like to act, you can request a small part and compose more if you wish. And if you like being organized or being somewhat in charge, you can be involved just to write and be a stage manager. Play Production needs as many of those as they can get!
As a participant I highly recommend taking play production next year if it is offered or being in a production like this. It is an experience like no other!

Occupy Dartmouth
Recently, a group of Dartmouth students launched a protest in front of the Collis building. This protest mimics the recent Occupy Wall Street protests. The protesters camped out for several months until they took their tent and left. Luckily, I was able to interview a protester named Stew the day before. He seemed very keen on sharing his views on the situations. Here are some questions and answers we exchanged:
Me: What inspired you to join Occupy Dartmouth?
Stew: I started Occupy Dartmouth with a few friends after Mayor Bloomberg evicted the occupy Wall Street protesters a second time. I was angry that the government had silenced the people’s voices. We set up Occupy Dartmouth on October 13th.
Me: Is the faculty of Dartmouth supportive of this protest?
Stew: Yeah, the majority is supportive.
Me: What could Washington do to satisfy you and other Occupy protesters?
Stew: I think they should change the government system and change beyond the government system. They should stop corporations from taking advantage of the middle class only to make and control more money.
This concluded my interview. Thank you for reading.

Gripes
It bothers me that people cut in the lunchline.
I’m not so much bothered about waiting longer to eat, but more so that certain people, who will not be named unless I’m asked to, seem to think that they are more deserving of having lunch than I. These ‘people’ if they can be called that, also get irritated when one points out to them that they are unconsciously sucking the joy from lunch. Sometimes one will be shoved against the wall, and the sheep will hurry past to fill the space one previously occupied.
I’m also bothered that these so-called people travel in little chuckling packs, and take offense to the idea of ‘single file’. The most frequent way that they will cut in line is the ol’ “behind the register” trick. This method of entry makes one unseen to the person on the register, and the person running the doorway.
They also get mad if you push past them to regain your place.
If you cut in line, do yourself a favor and invite the person who you rudely pushed in front of to twist your ear.
If you cut in line in a pack, shove each other and make a big deal of it. You are the future petty thieves and domestic terrorists of tomorrow, today!
To all non-cutters in the lunchline, congratulate the inferior being who cut you on figuring out that the front is better than the back of the line. Use the phrase “Back a the line, [removed by editor]” to suggest that they try waiting their turn like you did.

Sadly, 2012 is finally here. It is very exciting for some people but others are fearing the worst. They are fearing for the end of the world, December 21st. We have all heard of it, but is it really true. The Mayans predicted it and as we all know the Mayans were incredibly smart they knew more about space and time then any other civilization. Even though they were very smart, it seems that it would be almost impossible to predict that the world would end this far ahead in time. But, who knows the Mayans could be right and the world could end up just like it did in the 2012 movie. So be prepared...

Well
Actually, I think it's the 21st and not the 23rd! And the Mayans did not believe the world would end on that day at all. So, I disagree with you, but I think you did a good job writing this, and I liked the ending.

The movie 2012 does not
The movie 2012 does not correctly describe how the world will end. I think that if the world were to end. That would most likely be that the sun explodes and stops producing light which would leave the earth in pure darkness. After that, it would get so cold. It would be impossible for almost all living creatures to survive.

well first of all, the world
well first of all, the world is supposedly going to end on the 21st of december not the 23rd and did you ever think that the myans just got tired of writing a calender this far into the future? Maybe december 21st was when the last calender writer died.
